John was born October 25, 1952 in Louisville, Ky, the son of Henry John Lewis IV and Betty Lou Hodges Lewis.
He graduated from Westport High School as a star athlete and was scouted by the Montreal Expos. He chose instead to attend Murray State University.
After attending college, he went into the family business, Ignition Service and Supply Co, Inc where he worked with his brother for over 25 years. He ended his time there as President of the company.
John was a fierce, loyal friend and generous to a fault. If anyone needed anything, he was first in line to help in any way he could. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed spending time at his home in Bernheim Forest where the deer, foxes, wolves, raccoons and possum could be seen from his deck.
One of the great delights of his life was to take his beloved mother to Churchill Downs for the races on Mother’s Day. What a day they would have. He did love the ponies!
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry John Lewis IV.
John is survived by his adoring family, his mother Betty Lou Hodges Lewis, his sister, Lynda Beth Lewis Patterson (Mike), his brother, Mark Edward Lewis (Staci), his nieces, Taylor Rae Lewis, Madison Paige Lewis, and a new nephew or niece to be named before Christmas, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and a dear friend, John Simcoe, who helped care for him so faithfully.
Cremation has been chosen.
Please join us for a Celebration Of His Life on Sunday, May 15th from 1-4pm at the home of his sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Shamrock Foundation, P.O. Box 24033. Louisville, KY 40224.
