John Timothy Smith, 68, of Louisville, Kentucky departed this life on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Norton Women's and Children’s Hospital in Louisville, less than 24 hours after the passing of Carolyn, his beloved wife of 48 years.
Born on Sunday, September 2, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky, John was the son of Harry D. Smith and Zora L. Gellhaus Smith. He attended Speed School of engineering and then Jefferson Community College, where he earned an associate degree in electrical engineering. He had retired as an Electronic Technician for Radio Sound. He was a life-long member of St. Rita Catholic Church, where he had been active as a Eucharistic minister and recently a sacristan. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he had served as a Past District Deputy, Faithful Navigator, and Grand Knight. He was an avid lover of the American Motor Street Machine Car Club. John also loved spreading Christmas joy by filling in for Santa throughout the holidays. John loved his family dearly.
His parents, Harry D. and Zora L. Smith, his wife, Carolyn Mae (Carter) Smith, and siblings Sherry Lynn Smith, Pamela Ann Smith, Richard Leo Smith, and Philip Wayne Smith precede John in his passing.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Brian (Chrissy) Smith, Sarah (Trevor) Thornton and Anna (Steve) Phillips; granddaughter, Haley; siblings, Dr. Janet Lynn (John Roberts, MD) Smith, Karen Ellen (David) Russell, Terrence Douglas Smith, Stephen Allen Smith, Marla Jeanne (Brian) Weigel and Joseph Todd (Marla) Smith; 22 nieces and nephews, and 9 great nieces and great nephews. A host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church in conjunction with services for Carolyn. Following the Funeral Mass, both John and Carolyn will be interred in Calvary Cemetery, where they will rest alongside each other for eternity.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home – Okolona Chapel.
Flowers are accepted as well as memorial donations directed to St. Rita – Knights of Columbus.
