

John George Treitz, Jr., age 79, died Friday August 8th, 2025 at his Louisville home. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. John was born March 19th, 1946 in Louisville to John George Treitz, Sr. and Jean Lee Barnhill Treitz. He was a graduate of Waggener High School and Vanderbilt University (B.A. and J.D.).
John was dedicated to the practice of law for more than 50 years and served as a Member at Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC since 1994. John had an extensive track record of success, particularly in real estate law, where he earned multiple distinctions both in Kentucky and nationally. He previously served as the chairman of the Real Estate, Planning and Zoning section of the Louisville Bar Association and received numerous recognitions highlighting his legal service.
John was active in politics throughout his life starting in high school as a member of the Young Republicans, in college as elected Senator-at-Large and two-time Class President, and throughout his career in the local and state Republican Parties. He was a veteran having enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. John served as a past board member of Louisville's The Salvation Army and Episcopal Church Home, and was Vice Chair of Meritas Inc., an international consortium of law firms. John was a graduate of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Leadership Kentucky program. He was married at and a member of St Mark’s Episcopal Church. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity in college. He was a member of the Louisville Country Club. John had a passion for fishing that took him to remote waters of Alaska and Canada. Additionally, he had a keen interest in travel and real estate that took him around the world.
John devoted his life to his family and enjoyed hosting gatherings at his home for those he loved. His sound advice was sought and relied upon by both friends and family. John was preceded in death by his parents and wife Susan Matton Williams Treitz. He is survived by his son John Jeffrey Welsh Treitz, and stepsons The Rev. Jesse Williams Lebus (Meredith), Morgan Vanmeter Lebus (Hanne), granddaughters Rowan, Martha, Clara, and Ida, sister Jean Lee Treitz, brother Robert Gregory Treitz (Harriet), brother-in-law Charles Jeffreys Williams (Mary), along with numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 14th at St. Francis in the Fields Church, 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road with a private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitations are 4 -7 PM Wednesday August 13th at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road and Thursday August 14th at 10 AM at the church.
