She is preceded in death by son George Joe and by her husband.
June- called “Junebug” by her father- was born in Louisville on June 16, 1927, to Dan and Aileen Corman. She attended Western Kentucky University and then the University of Louisville, and in 1948 married Glasgow native and U of L football player George Bertram.
June’s life is remarkable not so much for the tragedies that marked it (brother killed when she was a young adult; contracted polio at age 23; son died at age 11; husband died age 53), but for the stoicism, determination, and abiding faith in a merciful God which led her to reach out to others and help them along their various paths. She was an armchair psychologist extraordinaire who touched many lives and whose lessons will live on in family and friends.
She is survived by daughter Christie Corman Bertram, and by “surrogate” daughter Paulette Cox and Paulette’s husband Jim Cox. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews from her husband’s side, who greatly enriched her life.
Never one to hold back her opinion, she thinks David Padgett should stay on as coach of her beloved Louisville Cardinals.
