Linda Kay Sheets passed away peacefully this past Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at home. Linda was born on December 23rd, 1943 to her parents David W. and Mary Elizabeth Lane Mears in Houston, TX. She later moved to Indianapolis, IN where she spent most of her youth and graduated from Lawrence Central H.S.
At the age of 17 Linda was awarded second runner up in the Miss Indianapolis Beauty Pageant. She attended the University of Indiana. She married Phillip L. Sheets in Indianapolis. They then moved to Charlotte, NC, where they lived for 5 years before moving to Louisville and finishing college, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Sullivan University School of Interior Design.
Linda spent most of her career employed by Humana in the department of design. She was an affiliate member of the IBD, and later retired from Thonet Furniture Company, where she was recognized with multiple outstanding sales achievement awards.
She was very active in the community, serving on boards for the Women’s Club of Louisville, Louisville Fillies, and Bellermine Showcase of Homes. She actively volunteered for JCPS, KY School for the Blind, and Louisville Deaf Oral School. She was also a member of Jobe’s Daughters.
Linda was preceded in passing by her parents and two grandchildren, Nathan L. Frey and Mary Elizabeth Frey.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 51 years, Phillip L Sheets; children, Lee Ann Frey (David) and Jonathan Sheets; grandchildren, Alison Sherman , Matthew Frey and Zachary Sheets; siblings, Paula Diekoff (Kenny) and Gloria Westhues (John); very very special friend, Trish Blair; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, February 9, from 2 to 4 PM at the Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue. Following the visitation will be a remembrance service at 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers Linda requested that donations, in her memory, be made to Hosparus of Louisville and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
