

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 24, 1944. He was the son of Mary and Joseph Perry of Star City, West Virginia. Lou grew up in Star City and the Morgantown, West Virginia area. Lou graduated from West Virginia University before starting his professional career in education in Pontiac, Michigan as a teacher. He earned a Master’s degree in Education Psychology and Counseling during evening and summer sessions at Michigan State University. Lou later worked his way up the career ladder to the State Director of Student Services in the Kentucky Department of Education in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Lou had four siblings: John (deceased), Robert “Bob” in Mission Viejo, CA, William “Bill” in Morgantown, WV, and Isabel “Dr. Safety” in Orlando, FL.
Lou married his beautiful bride, Mary Shields, on August 30 1997, in Louisville, KY and cherished their time together. He resided in Louisville until his death. He had three wonderful step-daughters: Melissa Mullins (Albert Zertuche) Waco, TX; Aimee Mullins (Scott) Milwaukee, WI; and Minta Mullins (David Cooper) Sherman Oaks, CA. Lou had five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and four wonderful Godchildren.
Lou spent a lifetime enjoying the game of golf, got tremendous enjoyment from his involvement in his Italian heritage activities, spending most with the Italian American Association of Louisville. Lou enjoyed involvement with the Louisville Area Woodturners.
Lou’s visitation will be held 3 to 8 pm on November 7, 2011 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40213. Lou’s Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 11 am on November 8, 2011, 3705 Stone Lakes Dr, Louisville, KY 40299.
In lieu of flowers, Lou would appreciate a donation to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, St. Michael Catholic Church General Fund, or Hosparus.
