

Funeral Services will be held noon Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel. The Chaplin, Peggy Holthaus of Hosparus, will be assisted by Margaret’s son Henry West Bridgers. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
Margaret was born September 1, 1929 in Darlington, SC. Early schooling was in Charlotte, NC. The family moved to Louisville in 1946. She graduated from Atherton High School. Margaret attended Winthrop College (now Winthrop University) in Rock Hill, SC, where she earned a two-year certificate in Secretarial Science.
Margaret was a dedicated proponent of private daycare. She owned and operated a facility for twenty-seven years in the Louisville area.
Margaret and Lloyd shared a number of interests; a love of travel in and out of the country. Loyal fans of the University of Louisville Cardinals’ basketball and football teams, they attended home and away games at every opportunity.
As true Louisvillians, they enjoyed the racing season; during which they hosted an annual Derby party in their home. Guest list included adults, teenagers and youngsters.
The Bridgers loved to vacation at the South Carolina coast, North Myrtle Beach specifically. The family enjoyed deep-sea fishing, sun and sand, theater productions, and seafood at its best. Visiting South Carolina relatives was a high priority.
Margaret will be remembered for her love for her family, her sustaining faith, her depth of character, her ready smile, and her ever-present sense of humor. Perseverance, generosity, and caring for others were also important to her. Her beloved companions were her dogs, Preston and Jack.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Lloyd Hamilton Bridgers. Margaret’s parents, Joseph Henry West and Margaret Oates West, and Lloyd’s parents, William English Bridgers and Winifred Arnold Bridgers, also preceded her in death.
Surviving her are her sister Joann W. McMaster (in Rock Hill, SC) and her sister-in-law Beverly Bridgers Bennis (in Florida).
Her surviving children: Henry West Bridgers (Beverly) of Southport, NC, Marcia Bridgers White (Paul) of Atlanta GA, Melissa Bridgers McGraff (Ted) of Louisville KY and Margaret Bridgers Alexander (Scott) of Florida.
Surviving grandchildren: Taylor, Arthur and Morganna Bridgers of NC, Alexander, Jaime and Laura White of Atlanta, Joshua McGraff and Emily McGraff of Louisville; Jessica Borho, JP (Patrick) Eubanks, Andrea Dickens, Robbie Dickens and Tiffany McEachern, and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kentucky Humane Society, 241 Steedly Drive, Louisville KY 40214-2961 or to Hosparus of Louisville.
The family expresses appreciation for the care and concern by physicians, nurses, therapists and Hosparus.
