

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Walter Wurster, daughter, Beverly Jean Henderson and sister, Inez Buchter.
Laverne was born in Louisville on March 9, 1924, to Anna Lee and William Hutchins. She graduated Mercy Academy in 1942. During her teen years, Laverne, her sister, Inez and their mother joined the Bugle and Drum Corp and played for the VFW Auxiliary. Laverne, of course, played the drums. With her husband, William, they were members of Salem / Chapel Hill United Church of Christ.
She was a connoisseur of old movies and had a collection to rival the Turner Classic Movie Network, with her all time favorite being "South Pacific". Laverne was fond George Strait. She enjoyed traveling from Alaska to the coasts of Florida and Europe, either with family or on bus tours. But her favorite destination was Dale Hollow Lake with family.
Laverne is survived by her children, Sharon ( late William) Kercher, Barbara (John) Linnig, and Daryl (Kris Johnson) Wurster, and son in-law, James Henderson; grandchildren, Dana Morris, Bill Kercher, James Henderson, Janice Henderson, Kate Crosby, and Karen Wurster; siblings, Paul “Red” (Sylvia) Hutchins and Doris Rountree; and great grandchildren, Trevor, Matthew and Trenton.
A memorial service honoring Mary Laverne’s life will be at 2 pm, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, followed by inurnment at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Family and friends are welcome to visit Saturday, from 10 am until the time of service, at the funeral home.
