A longtime Louisville, KY resident, Mary Burch (Beam) Poynter passed away on August 25, 2025 surrounded by family at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand, Indiana. She was 90 years old and absolutely loved life, having just celebrated her birthday with many family members. Mary Burch was born in New Haven, KY on August 1, 1935, to the late George Burch and Agnita Whalen Beam and grew up in Jeffersonville, IN. Mary Burch, a retired associate of American Greetings Corp. and co-owner of Poynter’s Liquors, was an avid Bunco and card player. She also loved attending local church picnics, gardening, crocheting, celebrating every holiday, and was the biggest fan of Gayle’s Louisville Senior Softball teams. Mary Burch & Gayle embraced their empty nest years, traveling across North America—from British Columbia to Key West—in their 1986 Volkswagen Westfalia.
A member of St. Matthias Catholic Church and St. Boniface Catholic Church, Mary Burch was highly social and devoted to serving others, making and keeping so many friends throughout her life.
