

After a life of dedicated service and love, Mary Opaline “Opie” Simmons (Waddell) went to her final rest on September 25th.. Born on June 14, 1925, Opie was a primary school teacher for more than 30 years, an avid bird watcher and animal lover, and enjoyed reading, specifically the works of Beatrix Potter. She was a Methodist, and a 61-year member of the Knox Chapter #236 of the Ohio Order of the Eastern Star. Opie received her degree in education from Ohio University, and was a member of Phi Mu.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Simmons in 1969, and her daughter, Mary Beth Miller in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lee Miller (Keith); granddaughters, Melissa “Missy” Moreland (Shawn) and Kimberly Hahn (Eric); grandson, Robert “BJ” Miller (Kristin) and great grandchildren, Blake, Brant, Brice, Kaylin, Taylor and Payton. Services will be held at the Danville United Methodist Church, 408 South Market Street, Danville, Ohio 43014 on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM with burial in Workman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 Thursday at Danville United Methodist Church in Danville, Ohio.
