

The Rev. Nicholas Lawrence Temple (Rev. Nick) of Louisville, Kentucky died peacefully at the Baptist Health Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, June 4 at the age of 70. Nick was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 14, 1946. He attended Southern High School. Nick was in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and a member of the Pershing Rifles at the University of Kentucky, and graduated from there in 1969. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Army in Schweinfurt, Germany from 1970-1972, then as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Kentucky until 1983, when he began his studies at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. After earning his M.Div. at Eden Seminary, he was ordained and installed as the pastor of St. John UCC in Cannelton, Indiana where he served from 1987-1998. He served as the pastor of Christ Evangelical UCC in Louisville from 1998 until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Hertle Temple, his father; Robert Temple; and a host of aunts and uncles.
Nick is survived by his two sons, Nicholas Temple III and Robert Temple II (Kimberly); sister, Deborah Temple Bennett (Butch); nieces, Kelsey and Kate Bennett; his former wife, Janel Temple; and six grandchildren: Lee, Brandy, Savannah, Kayla, Story and Remy Temple.
A memorial service celebrating Nick's life will be Wednesday at 3:00 pm at Faith United Church of Christ, 14001 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40245. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service, from 1-3 pm, and a reception will follow the service, also at the church. All are welcome to attend.
There will be cremation and private inurnment.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his memory go to Faith United Church of Christ or Hosparus of Louisville. Please have any floral deliveries sent directly to the church.
