Orris “Bud” Weatherton Reynolds, III, Departed this life suddenly at the age of 68 years Monday, July 5th, 2021, at his residence in Laredo, Texas. Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, on February 19th, 1953, to the late Harvey Edwards and Margaret Rives Jamison Reynolds. Beloved husband of Diana Reynolds, father of Rebecca Renae Reynolds of Oregon, Rachel Reyann Reynolds of Vero Beach, Florida, and Robert Allen Eugene Reynolds (Daniel Aiken) of Greenville, South Carolina. Grandfather of David Ryan Arredondo, Jr. of Canton, North Carolina and Emma Kay Davis and Haven Jade Reynolds of Vero Beach, Florida. Beloved brother of Robert Allen (Diane) Reynolds, Berea, Kentucky, Margaret Anne Reynolds (Robert) Foster of Lexington, Kentucky, and Susan Jamison Reynolds (Tyrone) Mack of Louisville, Kentucky. Beloved nephew of Sue Jamison (Richard) Malmad of St. Petersburg, Florida. He leaves behind numerous cousins in Louisville and Frankfort, Kentucky; Atlanta, Georgia; New York; California; and North Carolina; two nephews and their family in Lexington, Kentucky and two nieces and their families in Easley and Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina.
Beginning his education at Bates Elementary in Fern Creek, Louisville, Kentucky, Bud was a 1971 graduate of Corbin High School, Corbin, Kentucky, where he was an enthusiastic member of the high school band and attended First Baptist Church where he sang in a touring choir with his brother and sister. Early years in Cub Scouts and playing Little League football, baseball and basketball gave way to many hours happily spent camping, fishing and water skiing on Lake Cumberland with his family and friends. Trips to fish in Canada with his father and summer trips to spend time with his grandparents in Lakeland, Florida and beach vacations in Vero Beach, Florida were early highlights in his life along with holidays spent with family in Shelbyville, Kentucky, visiting his grandmother Ruby Bowler Jamison Weakley and her extended family.
Before iPods, CDs, cassette and 8-track tapes, he put together mix party tapes from his vinyl collection on his reel-to-reel tape sound system for pool parties, informal get-togethers and dancing with friends. As an adult, he enjoyed scuba diving, boating, travel and attending concerts as well as spending time with his many rescued pet dogs.
Inspired by his father’s untimely death due to complications from sleep apnea, he graduated from the University of Kentucky’s Lexington Technical Institute with a degree in respiratory therapy in 1977. He traveled extensively in the United States during his 40-plus year career in respiratory therapy including work at hospitals in Lexington, Berea, and Frankfort, Kentucky, in Pennsylvania and Tennessee, working and teaching respiratory therapy in Florida, and practicing later in Iowa and the Laredo, Dallas and Houston, Texas areas. Wherever he traveled, he kept up with his Kentucky Wildcats basketball and football games, even if only by telephoning his older brother for a play-by-play report.
