Robert was known for his storytelling, laughter, and love of University of Alabama football. He was a husband, father, father-in-law and was known as Buddy to his grandchildren, whom he protected and loved intensely.
Robert was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 30, 1944, to parents Clarence H. and Andree Sholund. He graduated from Antelope Valley High School and San Diego State University. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served his country honorably as a Lt. Captain on the 2nd Armored Calvary, as a Tank Armor Crewman. He was married to Pat on April 19, 1969, in Nuremburg, Germany. Traveling across Europe, he and Pat found their true passion for traveling and adventure.
Robert is survived by his two children, Christon Sholund Segal (Brian), and Jennifer Leigh Sholund (Brian McCarthy); and three grandsons, Andrew Jacob Segal, Jack Henry Segal, and Zachary Sholund Brouillette.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Hughes Sholund; his father Clarence H. Sholund; his mother, Andree Sholund; and his brother James H. Sholund.
Robert was a servant leader, serving on church mission trips leading youth groups and adults around Alabama and to Bolivia, South America to build and renovate houses for the underserved. He was a homebuilder, founding Sholund & Daughter’s LLC and was a long-time member of the Greater Birmingham Homebuilders Association. He volunteered and served on the board of the Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity and believed strongly that every family deserved to own a home. He loved hiking, camping, and traveling with his wife and family and especially loved spending time with his grandsons.
