Loving mother of Deirdre Dee Heightchew and Charles Kenneth Heightchew, Jr. (Gary Kleinschmidt) and widow of Charles Kenneth Heightchew, Sr., she is survived by her siblings Teresa Faith (William), Michael Goodgine, John Goodgine (Deborah), and her brother-in-law William Hickman, Sr.
Born in Mallory, West Virginia, Shirley was raised in Ravenscroft, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky. She was the eldest of nine children. She attended Ahrens Trade School, Louisville, and received her GED in 1975. A devoted mother and housewife, Shirley learned to drive in 1976 and soon after began her career as a salesclerk at Stewart’s Dry Goods. She retired from Duplicator Sales and Service in 2006.
Shirley was an avid cook known for her coconut cake as well as her fried chicken. She loved to work crossword puzzles, dearly loved taking care of her nieces and nephews, and always allowed her daughter and son to pull up the rugs and move the furniture out of the living room for a good dance party. She spent her quieter time sewing clothing, doll clothes, and quilts for friends and family.
In her final months, she was cared for by the compassionate staff of Jane Todd Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Kentucky. She will always be remembered for her smile, her laughter, and for her love of her family.
