

He was born June 5, 1931 in Luzerne, Kentucky, son of the late William Thomas and Hattie Ann Dukes Denny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Denny.
In his younger years, he was an avid baseball player, playing varsity high school baseball in 7th grade, lettering 6 years. He played on an undefeated American Legion Team and semi-pro baseball with the Central City Reds and Greenville from the time he was 16. He had been described by a fellow teammate, at a reunion, as the greatest baseball player ever from Western, Kentucky. He served as class President at Greenville High School, including his graduating class of 1949.
He worked in the strip-mines as a surveyor before he started as an apprentice as a brick mason where he was responsible for most of the construction of the major buildings of Southwestern, Indiana. Some of his work included the first buildings at USI, The Koch Engineering Building at UE, additions at Bosse High School and Fairlawn Elementary. He was in charge of laying the Four Freedoms Monument at Dress Plaza Riverfront in Evansville for the Bicentennial. He was also an avid gardener, and served as Sunday school superintendant at the Evansville Church of God of Prophecy for many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Nell Denny; two sons, Monte Denny and wife Sandy and Dr. Marty Denny and his wife Teresa; granddaughter, Elizabeth “Lisbeth” Denny; sister-in-law, Gloria Denny; two nephews, Larry and Kenny Denny.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Chapel of Arch L. Heady and Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road. Interment will occur at 2:00 PM CST Saturday at Parklawn Cemetery in Evansville, Indiana. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
