

Ted was born February 3, 1946 in Louisville KY. He was a 1964 graduate of Seneca High School, where he played baseball for four years. At Georgetown College, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity & forged friendships with his brothers that spanned a lifetime. After graduating in 1968 with a double major in English and History, Ted was a commissioned officer in the Navy from 1968-71, stationed in Kodiak, Alaska.
After leaving the Navy, Ted lived in Columbus, OH for several years before moving back to Louisville, where he met and married his wife Judy. He earned a BS in Accounting and an MBA at University of Louisville, sparking a decades long love of all UofL sports & activities. A dedicated Alumni, season ticket holder and all around sports enthusiast, he regularly attended football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and volleyball games. If you saw Ted, you would usually see him sporting some sort of UofL apparel. For many years, you could also find him playing softball or volleyball, staying active through his love of team sports.
Ted retired from Freedom Metals in 2010, where he had worked as controller for many years. He enjoyed traveling to away UofL games and going to new and interesting places with Judy. He was a lover of different genres of music and was fond of going to concerts and orchestra performances. He had a deep social conscience and was known to attend demonstrations when he felt called to do so, which is a source of great pride for his children. He had an avid appreciation of history, geography, national parks, and visiting related landmarks.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Sr. and Mary Cole Gibson, and his younger brother Richard Cole Gibson.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Boeckmann Gibson, sister Mary Beth Peters (Bob), daughters Melissa Brown (Tom), Sarah Lyverse (Scott), much loved stepchildren Jason Neichter (Kelly) and Melissa Neichter. He was Pappy to several grandchildren: Mason and Meredith Lyverse, Griffin and Gunnar Brown, Lexi and Lavin Smith, and one great-granddaughter, Vera Lyverse. A visitation for Theodore will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 12:00PM to 3:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
