Walter A. Rawlings Jr. (Wally), lost his courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 28, 2018. The Hosparus room was filled beyond capacity, spilling into the hallway with family and friends, many of whom traveled from far away. The love pouring forth was a testament to the kind of man Wally was and how he lived his life.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Alice Faye (Sharer) and three heartbroken children; Theresa (Teri) Rawlings (Beth Heil); Leanne McLaughlin (Joe); James Rawlings (Rachael) and his six precious grandchildren; Faith, Kate, Nick, Reese, Chase and Kellan; his grieving siblings, Shirley Morabito (Joe); Sandra Smith,; Gregory (Donna); Michael (Mary) and lifelong “brother from another mother” Joe Paul Wathen (Sally).
Wally retired from CSX Railroad in 2005 after 36 years of stellar service. He loved watching sports and was a passionate Kentucky Wildcat fan. A man of many talents, Wally was ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He was truly a selfless, loving man always with a smile and quick wit. Having Wally as your friend was a true blessing. We will miss you Wally. Your memory will be loved and cherished by all who knew you.
A celebration of Wally’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY, from 2:00pm-8:00pm.
