Bruce was born April 19, 1961, in Denver, Colorado, but was raised primarily in Fort Collins, Colorado. He attended Poudre High School and then Colorado State University thereafter.
He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for multiple decades on computer programming related to geographic information systems and remote sensing. He was a very diligent worker who received ample praise from all of those that worked with him, culminating in presentations at many large national conferences.
He was previously married to the mother of his children, but divorced decades ago. Though they were not married, he had a partner, Veronica, who he met later in his life, and she meant the world to him. He will always be remembered as a committed and loving father to his five children – for whom he always arranged get-togethers for birthdays and holidays.
He was also a devoted sports fan, particularly of the Denver Nuggets, Denver Broncos, and Colorado State Rams. His other interests included travel, cuisine, and playing basketball as well as watching professional wrestling and some of his favorite shows (Game of Thrones, True Blood, The Walking Dead). He was known by all who interacted with him for his kindness, sense of humor, and steadfast demeanor.
He is survived by his daughters Serena Vandenberg, Gwendolen Vandenberg, Taryn Brown, Missy Brown, a son Devon Vandenberg, and his sister Sheila McClune.
He was preceded by his parents Robert and Theresa Vandenberg.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
