Constance Elaine Duncan, 76, took her last breath on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at the Pathways Hospice Care Center, in Fort Collins, CO, with loved ones by her side. She fought against the effects of Parkinson's for almost 20 years, turning to her creative nature and faith in the Lord to fuel her mind and soul through the pain and frustration of a degenerative disease. She was and will always be a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, mother, wife, aunt, grammy, great-grandma, and friend, to so many.
Connie was born December 3rd, 1948, to Gladys Nadine McConnell and Virgil Howard Ingram, in Wichita, Kansas, the first of three beautiful sisters. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1955, and Tulsa became their home. With her parents each having 8 siblings, her childhood weekends were filled with family and friends on the local lakes, and trips back to Kansas to spend time with grandparents and cousins.
Connie married John Larry Duncan September 4th, 1970, at Rose Hill Methodist Church in Tulsa. They shared a wild and wonderful five children and over fifty years together, choosing each other again and again through both the easy times and the hard. After several moves to keep up with John's work in construction, they settled together here in Loveland to raise their family, moving to Ault in 2006, where their home remained the heart of the family for years to come.
Connie was a nurturing caretaker at heart and mathematically creative in mind. She enjoyed drawing and painting throughout her life, and started sewing at a young age, learning to make her own clothes. She loved being a wife and mother, and stayed home with her kids for the better part of their childhoods. She enjoyed teaching them to garden, sew, knit, quilt, and crochet, and tried to instill her love of math, to varying degrees of success.
Connie paired her caring nature and passion for science and math to pursue her dream of becoming a registered nurse, going back to school at age 50 and maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout her journey to being an RN. While a Parkinson's diagnosis cut her career short, she took a great deal of satisfaction in knowing she'd completed her dream, and in sharing her knowledge, and the wisdom she'd gained in its pursuit, with family and friends.
She took so much joy in making us all things by hand, hats and scarves, afghans and quilts. Connie loved and took comfort in having quilts and afghans made by her mother and grandmothers and aunts in her life and home. She wanted very much for each member of her family to have something they could hold on to and wrap up in, to demonstrate and remind us of her love. It was hard on her when sewing became difficult to impossible due to the effects of Parkinson's, but Connie then turned back to her love of painting to continue bringing beauty and color into the lives of her loved ones.
As a loving wife and caretaker, she was integral to the care and happiness of her mother, Nadine, and husband, John, as they all grew older and dealt with the effects of their respective health issues together. Even as she was on hospice herself, Connie continued to be John's primary source of care and support.
Connie's faith in and love of the Lord were the foundations of her life, in every regard. There was nothing that brought her more happiness than knowing her children and grandchildren had their own relationships with Jesus. She was always there to listen and pray and suggest a bible verse that she hoped would bring us comfort. She was a member of Timberline Church in Fort Collins, CO, and additionally enjoyed attending First United Methodist Church in Pierce, CO, over the last few years.
Connie is survived by her children, Stephanie Shealy, John Larry Duncan, Jr, Sarah Duncan Purcell, and John Levi Duncan; ten dearly loved grandchildren, and four darling great-grandchildren, all of Colorado; her sisters Cheryl Ingram Griffith (Doug) of Leander, TX, and Crystal Ingram Phillips (John) of Arlington, VA; her sister-in-law, D'Jeanne Newberry Duncan (Rick) of Cushing, OK; her uncle, Raymond Ingram, of Altamont, KS; her dear cousin, Judy King (Tom), of Owasso, OK; and many, many other cousins, beloved nieces and nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Larry Duncan, Sr.; her parents; her step-father, Doug Gardipe; her daughter, Sharon Abagail Duncan; all but one of her many aunts and uncles, many of her cousins, and several dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at the the Allnutt Funeral Chapel in Loveland, CO. A small reception will follow.
Losing Connie has left our lives a little emptier, and a little less colorful, but no less full of love, for all that she left behind will continue to grow and be passed down for generations to come.
