Debra Kay Malcom, 58 of Johnstown, CO passed away alongside loved ones on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies. Debbie was born in Great Bend, KS on July 2, 1965 to the late Robert Francis and Delores Ann Meis.
Debbie spent her early years in Lyons, KS and later moved to Galva, KS where she grew up attending St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was known to her family and friends by her laughter and fun-loving personality. In high school, Debbie enjoyed 10-key typing, cheerleading, and had the honor of being voted Canton-Galva High School’s Homecoming Queen. Debbie graduated from Canton-Galva High School in 1983.
In her adult years, she moved to Wichita, KS where she married Gene Friess on June 17th, 1988 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Garden Plain. Together, Debbie and Gene had two daughters; Ashley and Amber. She had the joy of staying home with her girls while they were young and as they got older, she started an in-home daycare. She had a God-given gift of working with children. Not only did the kids love her, but they easily followed her instruction due to the bond that she formed with them. As her girls grew, she enjoyed cheering for them at the soccer fields, often as the loudest parent on the sidelines! She later married Gary Malcom on September 24, 2005 at Church of the Nazarene in Clearwater, KS. She enjoyed her career in the pork industry for nearly 20 years, working alongside Gary, serving both Cargill and JBS. She took great pride in her work and was always eager to tell her family about promotions she earned! Debbie was a bright light for any co-worker she worked alongside, making the workplace fun…and definitely louder! Deb’s love and support for her daughters was unwavering. Not only did she show unconditional love and support to her daughters, but also had a heart to serve as a mother figure to many of her daughter’s friends, as well as young co-workers. She absolutely adored being Camden’s Nana…he was her pride and joy!
She loved spending time with her family, shopping for the latest sales or bargains for new house décor, and crafting. Debbie enjoyed making wreaths and diaper cakes for friends and family. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and collecting sea shells. She had a love for the 4th of July and always enjoyed the fireworks with her family. She could often be found cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas Jayhawks. Debbie’s boisterous personality could brighten a room and she brought great joy to those around her. She gave the biggest hugs and believed in living by the Golden Rule…treat others the way you want to be treated.
