Gil passed peacefully in his sleep on September 9, 2023.
Born in Virgil, South Dakota to Edward Koschel and Christina Krausz Koschel on August 03, 1931. He had 5 siblings, Marvin (deceased), Orville (deceased), Dale (deceased), Arlene (deceased) and Marlys.
Gil spent his youth farming in South Dakota.
In 1951 Gil joined the United States Navy. He served on the USS Blue, the Kodiak T.A. and the USS Quincy. During this time, he received the China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. His service to his country was always something Gil was very proud of. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1955.
In 1959 Gil married Doris Glanzer Koschel, his brother Orville’s widow. They started as a family of four with Doris and Orville’s children Darlys Koschel (Mary Beth) and Derlyn Koschel Van Ronk (Mark). Their family soon grew as they had three children together: Douglas Koschel (Lori), Dawn (deceased) and Dennis. He was a welder on the Oahe Dam in South Dakota. The family moved to Minnesota where Gil attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis to become a Tool and Die Maker. In 1968 they moved to Loveland, Colorado to work at Hewlett Packard until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retirement Gil spent many years traveling south for the winter. He filled his days with friends playing washer boards and snakes and ladders.
Gil is survived by 4 children: Darlys, Derlyn, Doug and Dennis, as well as 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Gil was loved by his family and leaves many happy memories.
Memorial service to be held in Loveland, CO 12:30 pm on Wednesday 09/20/2023, at Allnutt Funeral Service, Hunter Chapel.
