He is also survived by his siblings Jerry, John (Phylis), Robert (Dorothy) and Carla.
Herschel was preceded in death by wife Carolyn Chadwick, his parents, Edith and Lee Chadwick along with brothers Wesley Chadwick and Kenneth Chadwick
Herschel was born in Kansas to Edyth and Lee Chadwick along with 6 brothers and one sister. As a family, they moved all over Kansas and Colorado until he graduated from Cotopaxi High School. After graduation, he served our country as a member of the Air Force. Later, after starting a family, he went back to school and earned his associates degree through Colorado Mountain College.
Herschel enjoyed many occupations through the years, but was extremely proud of his time spent as a lineman for the Sangre de Cristo REA in the Custer County area and helping the many residents of that community. In his later years, he joined the large animal crew at CSU foothills campus and, with his excellent welding skills, was able to not only help maintain the facilities, but train others in these skills as well. He also spent time as a welder, truck driver, sheriff deputy, handyman and volunteered to help the community as both a volunteer fireman and EMT.
In his later years, Herschel was very excited to spend the winters living in Texas and enjoying the warmer weather plus spending time with family there. This last year he settled back in Colorado with his brother Jerry in a great senior community and gained many new friends living in his apartment in Loveland.
Spending time in the outdoors and with family were very important to Herschel. He was always up for any type of family gathering and would help any way he could to make that happen. He, along with his brothers, were a driving force in getting everyone together for at least one camping trip a year.
Another favorite activity was the trips he would take with his brothers and others to go either hunting or shooting. In the later years, everyone who could would join together and go shooting on a family friend's ranch in Southeast Colorado. Some awesome stories would be told about these trips, but a favorite is when “whop biscuits” were found in microwave from the previous year. Since the biscuits had been preserved in the enclosed space, the cooks that night thought it would be funny to serve them for dinner. There was lots of laughter about the rock hard biscuits.
Herschel would ask that in his memory you reach out to your family, friends and loved ones to let them know you are thinking about them.
