Centennial, CO – Jim Falkenstine, a longtime resident in the South Denver area, died on December 11th, 2018 at Sierra Vista Health Care Center in Loveland, CO after a long battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. He was 72 years old.
Born in 1946 in Washington, D.C., to Foster and Katherine Falkenstine, he graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD in 1964. It was during his High School days that he went to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron and fell in love with the Western U.S. Pledging with fellow scout and life-long friend Rob Hilsenroth to both return to live out their days in the West, he returned first to New Mexico, where he received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1968. It was during his time at ENMU that he met his first wife, Liz Pierce. After their wedding in 1968, they had their oldest son while in Eastern New Mexico. Shortly after his birth, they moved to the Denver area, where Jim would live for the rest of his life. A few years after their move to Denver, Liz gave birth to their second son. Jim had several jobs, but it was real estate that captured his heart, and he would first sell new homes from the model homes, then later move on to residential real estate with several companies. During his time at Van Schaack, Remax Masters, Metro Brokers and Keller Williams, he made friends along the way, playing on company softball teams and going on company ski trips. It was during this time in his life, after the end of his marriage to Liz, that he remarried and found new love with Krista Strouse, who had a daughter. Jim and Krista had a daughter of their own and lived their lives together in Centennial.
Jim loved many things, including good food, cooking (including pancakes with applesauce in them!) time with his neighbors and friends, his kids and grandkids, enjoyed going to the movies and loved the outdoors. Any type of outdoor activity was OK with him: Skiing, hiking, and mountain biking were among his favorite things. He is survived by his loving sister, Peggy Saulpaugh, his two sons, Mike (Sherie), their three children and Kevin (Shannon), their two children, and his daughters Madison(James) and Somer.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11am on January 12, 2019 at Grace Chapel, 8505 So. Valley Hwy, Englewood, CO. In leiu of flowers or other gifts, his family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/donate.
