Born in Riga, Latvia in 1941 to Rev. George Mikhailovich Benigsen and Helen Kraubler Benigsen, the Benigsen family immigrated to the United States in 1950.
After spending his early years in San Francisco, California, Nick attended North High School in Denver and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1965. For the next forty years, Benigsen led a distinguished career with the Foreign Service. He retired in 2004.
Nick is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Geraldine Duffy Benigsen, daughter, Anne, son-in-law, Andrew and grandson, Jeffery, all of Aurora, Colorado, as well as several members of his wife's family.
Nick was of the Russian Orthodox faith. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband and father, a friend and a gentleman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
