Norm was born on September 22, 1941, in Sharon, Kansas to Max and Bernadine Engelbrecht. He moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colorado in 1951 and lived on the family farm with 2 brothers (Gerald and Bill) and 3 sisters (Janice, Judy and Jean). Norm went to college at Colorado State College in Greeley, CO, and had a 34-year career as a physical education teacher with the Denver Public Schools. He met his wife Gail Gish Engelbrecht while at college and they were married for 58 years. Norm and Gail raised two cherished daughters Jennifer Engelbrecht Ranta and Emily Engelbrecht Zadvorny and adored their 4 grandchildren.
After spending 35 years in Lakewood, CO, Normand Gail retired in Loveland, CO. Norm was an avid fisherman, huntsman, and outdoorsman. He was a leader in and member of the Loveland Fishing Club where he had many friends. He was known for his sense of humor, his affection, and loyalty to all those he loved. His kindness, goofiness, big heart and his enormous pride and love of his family will be missed by many.
Norm is survived by wife Gail, daughter Jennifer (husband Matt, children Georgia and Zachary) and daughter Emily (husband Jim, children Max and Finn), 2 sisters Janice Denison and Jean Whitney, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:30 am (Allnutt Hunter Chapel 2100 N. Lincoln Ave; Loveland CO 80538). In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to 6359 E. Irwin Place, Centennial CO 80112 or Venmo @Emily-Zadvorny or Zelle (Emily Zadvorny) to go toward the Assistance Fund of the Denver Teachers Club or the Loveland Fishing Club Kids Fund.
