

At the age of 16 she and her family moved to Sturgis, SD where she attended Sturgis High School, class of 1947. After graduation, Ramona attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD, which is now known as Black Hills State University. During her college years, Ramona met the love of her life, Donald Strandell, the two married on August 6, 1950, in Sturgis.
Ramona and Don moved to Don’s hometown of Wall, SD where she worked at Wall Drug Store for some time before leaving that role to raise her 3 daughters. They eventually settled in Spearfish, SD in 2004. Ramona took an active role in the United Methodist Church in both Wall and Spearfish, singing in the choir and also helping produce the monthly bulletin.
After Don’s passing in 2008 Ramona remained in Spearfish until eventually relocating to Colorado in 2014, living in both Estes Park and then Loveland where she remained until her passing.
Ramona is survived by her daughters Julie Strandell of Loveland, Colorado and Joie (Kerry) Willuweit of Estes Park, Colorado, grandchildren Jessica Willuweit and great-grandchildren Edison and Quinton Shoemaker all of Estes Park.
She was preceded by her parents William and Jessie Burgess, her beloved husband Don Strandell, her sister Carol and brothers Gene and Bill, a daughter Bonnie and a son-in-law Tony.
