Royce and I met in 1985 at CSU and became fast friends and roommates. We have been close ever since. I cherished his lively spirit and his stubborn attitude.  We have lived our lives together even when we were in different states sharing the highs and lows. Going on trips like Cuba or other outings in the mountains.  I will miss my best friend but will always know he’s around and watching over.  Mary and Emily meant the world to him and we’re the light of his life.  His love knew no bounds for his wonderful daughters.  

I love you Brother.  God Speed. 

 Royce thinking of you over the past few days and the great times we had. I was finally able to crack a smile when I heard guitars , Cadillacs by D.Y. on the radio.  Thanks for all the lasagna / taco nights , pay per view get togethers , Friday fish fries , graduation parties , Sunday fun days at the gun range , some much needed financial advice and guidance & introducing me to that world famous Werner queso cheese dip. You always had a seat at your table for myself and many others , for that I will always be grateful and consider myself blessed to be your friend. So here's to cars #9 that go fast and only make left turns. R.I.P. Royce . Love & Prayers to the Werner family & friends.

Thank you for letting me be part of your life! Even though sometimes you shocked me with your stories and jokes...you always brought me laughter.  Sometimes you gave me the hard truth about life, and that was important for me to know.
Through all of our times together,  I knew that you loved your family.  I already miss you. 

Cousin Royce was Christine’s first babysitter... He was dubbed the Portuguese babysitter! Over the years Royce always included cousin Christine,  whenever she came to visit the beautiful state of Colorado. He made her feel welcome and invited her to join his adorable daughters Mary and Emily for bowling, ice skating,  and of course Dave & Buster’s!

I'm really uncertain where to begin, however, 2,000 characters is not enough space.  Chris, Junior (Jeff), Cindy and family, please accept my sympathy and prayers for your loss. I hope peace soon returns to your hearts and you take comfort and solace in knowing the impact this young man had on so many.

I first met Royce in college. Sure, there was the unusual name, but there was also the magnetic smile. The smile was always there. Whether it was a marathon road trip from Ft. Collins to Tucson or just a simple, friendly "pile on" in the dorms with Royce at the center, the smile was there.  

He was always accessible, available and ready to engage or debate. He was convicted in his opinions be it music or politics or beverages and possessed no shyness in sharing--whether you wanted to hear it or not. He also was highly skilled in snark--an attraction I admired. Yet beyond the seemingly rough exterior was an amazing heart. He had a reservoir of compassion in that heart and didn't suffer fools wisely.  His was a unique spirit unwavering in forging a path as an  individual and yet always ready to go along for the ride on whatever next adventure lay ahead. I will miss his laugh and am comforted by knowing that now he is at peace. 

Until we meet again "Bubble" on some rooftop Wiffle ball diamond in the sky or snow covered backyard croquet FAC, God's speed.


I had the privilege of getting to know Royce through our work together at First National.    He was a great man with a huge heart.   My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends.   

The loud music, the laughter and his smile...even when I marched up to his room, above mine, in Durward Hall to ask him to please turn down the music. Instead... he played it louder and prouder!  So blessed to have met his girls and his wife. He was so proud and full of love. I am so sad to hear of his passing, he will be missed. My condolences to his family. 

I remember meeting Royce's younger brother Jeff first.  I think when young college students meet we exchanged ideas about music and I am all the better for it and for meeting people who didn't just show me a new music but new ideas also.   I for one am not a huge fan of the Greek campus system.  Royce already had us beat in that sometimes the establishment deserves a course correction.  He had a certain genius in this, in exposing people for what and who they are , and also for what they are not.  I have always found and earnest quality in Royce and I think the world could use more of.   There is something to be said about all three brothers,  they're all cool, it is just something that is.  I don't think you could measure it but it's one of those things, just watch a little bit. you'll get it soon.  I felt Royce kind of  led the way and made things safe for everyone else.  For  those of us that fallowed in his wake, we say thank you Royce, you led the way.

Royce was well liked by so many of his co-workers at First National Bank....we are so sorry to hear of his passing and extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. 

Rest easy my longtime friend.  And thanks for all the laughs playing golf and at CSU many years ago.   

I was fortunate to have known Royce for the last 6 years.  We had the opportunity to work together and  travel to a few conferences.  Over the course of several adult beverages I got to hear how proud he was of his daughters and how he loved his wife.  God Bless Mary, Emily and Cindy.

Royce and I worked together.   We often spoke about clients to whom he was very dedicated.       It was a pleasure working with him.  Recently we spoke about things he cherished in his life: bike riding adventures from years past, cars, and his family.   He shared photos including many with his daughter.   Each of us has a story no one else has read.  I am grateful to Royce for sharing part of his story with me.

I knew Royce for over 10 years from Old Chicago.  As intimidating as he may have seemed by his appearance, Royce was one of the kindest and gentlest man that I know. He always looked out for me and my girls behind the bar. He was like a father figure to me. You could be real with him and I respect that so much. We had a common interest in guns. He even gave me my first one!! I will cherish it in his remembrance.  I will always remember his kind heart and support. My condolences go out to Cindy, Mary, and Emily. He was always so proud of his girls! He will always be part of our Old Chicago family🖤
