

Shirley N. Crouse was born on Jan 2, 1933, in Nenzel, NE. to Vesta (Goodin) and George Hansen. She died on April 26, 2023, at Good Samaritan Village in Loveland Co. She was raised and went to school in Cody, NE. where she was the only one of her 12 siblings that graduated from High School. Her parents and all her siblings are deceased. They included Raymond, Hazel, Mildred, George, Pete, Richard, Eugene, Merl, Glen, Ralph, (Shirley) and Arlene. She met her future husband, Vernon Crouse at the Cody skating rink. They married on July 15, 1950, in Ainsworth, NE. They honeymooned in Rapid City, SD. which was the start to a lifetime love of traveling. They made many trips over the years that always included family and friends, which made the trips very special. They moved to North Platte, NE. where Vern started a job as a meat cutter at Hinky Dinky. They moved to Carroll, IA. and then to McCook, NE.
Along the way they had two Children, Gayle born in North Platte and Mark in Carroll, IA. They moved to Berthoud, CO in 1974 and were part owners of H&T Meat Market in Longmont, CO. She was active in the Methodist Church, IOOF Rebekab's Lodge, Red Hats, and cleaned houses for several people. She moved to Good Sam’s in 2007 when Vern went into Health Care. He died in Sept 2007, and she continued living there for nearly 16 years. She was in Senior Living, Assisted living and during her last few months she was in a Special Care unit and Hospice. She was always lovingly cared for by the Good Samaritan Staff as well as Hospice.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and watching old westerns. Throughout her life she loved playing cards every chance she got. Other games such as Bingo, Scrabble and Yahtzee were also played. She got handy with a computer where she played games, typed letters and made birthday cards. Her biggest passion was for Nebraska Cornhuskers football, she rarely missed a game. She loved to stay active and regularly exercised. She was a loving mother, grandparent and friend. She was very close to Vern’s family who embraced her into their family.
She is survived by Gayle (Ken) Skoglund and Mark (Becky) Crouse. Grand children, Kory (Jill) Skoglund, Kelly (Reed) Maroney, Josh (Sandra) Crouse, Trevor Morganflash, Amber (Nathan) Benorden. Great grandchildren, Amelia and Landon Skoglund, Kaleb Maroney, Kraesyn Wolfe, Jaxson and Ciera Benorden, Stella and Ellie Crouse
Services will be held at Good Samaritan Village in the Spiritual Life Center, 2101 South Garfield Ave., Loveland, CO. on May 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on May 9, 2023 at 2:30 PM.
