Born on March 24, 1949, in Pontiac, Michigan, Thomson is the biological son of Margaret Wheat and Alfred Kruck Jr. At three weeks of age, Thomson and his twin sister, Elizabeth Ann Tracer, were adopted by Daniel C. Thomson, M.D., and Harriette DeWeese Thomson of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
For most of his childhood, Thomson grew up on Grosse Ile, Michigan, with his parents, twin sister Elizabeth and older brother Daniel. A 1967 graduate of Grosse Ile High School, Thomson was a member of the school band and high school wrestling team.
After high school, he also attended Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp in Steamboat, Colorado, where he performed in theater as well.
He graduated in 1971 from Adrian College in Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in speech and theater arts. At Adrian College, Thomson formed a rhythm and blues band called Bonelick. Thomson later went to Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and earned a teacher certification.
Thomson taught at Grosse Ile High School for a few years before moving to Florida to pursue a musical career.
For most of his adult professional life, Thomson was a musician with various bands, including Nightshift, Other Brothers, Playground, Axess, Side Effect and Headliner.
Thomson played guitar, bass, keyboard, and sang. He also was an audio engineer, song writer and producer/arranger.
Like any passionate musician, he went to wherever the music called him throughout the years, often to Florida, Michigan and California.
Later in his life, he got a real estate license in Colorado, where he lived for a few years. Thomson later joined his twin sister, Elizabeth, in California for five years, enjoying the beach life and trips around Southern California.
Thomson was also a skilled painter and created beautiful watercolor and acrylic paintings, most of which featured nature and various landscapes.
As a musician, Thomson was a valued friend to his fellow band members. They praised him for his strong voice, caring nature and his ability to make playing complex cords easy. Thomson was also known for his proficiency at making tracks and mixing his own sounds.
As a friend, Thomson (also known as Steve, Stevio or Steve-O, Brother) will be remembered for his easy-going ways, his warm smile, his calming voice and quirky sense of humor.
Thomson is survived by his sister Elizabeth of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brother Daniel Thomson, M.D. and his wife Ruth Ann of Anchorage, Alaska; nephew Matthew Tracer and his wife Kelly of Windsor, Colorado; great-nephew Blake Tracer of Fort Collins, Colorado; great-niece Bailey Tracer of Windsor; cousins and friends.
