

She was born to Marion Henry and Ellen (McGee) Wylie on August 7, 1920, in Pottsville, Arkansas. She was the youngest of six living children who was raised in a Christian home with Christian principles and taught to love God, her church and look for the good in all people. She spent her childhood, youth, and adolescent time in her home town enjoying activities in her church, home, and school. She was a 1938 graduate of Pottsville High School and attended Arkansas Tech College, registered in the school of elementary education. Following her student teaching she began her teaching career in the Pottsville Secondary School in 1940.
She was married to Max Earl Humphrey on September 23, 1941, in Russellville, Arkansas. She moved to San Diego, California, with her husband where he was employed with Consolidated Aircraft Company. God blessed her with two lovely daughters.
Ann is preceded in death by her devoted husband; two sisters: Jewel Teeter and Lorene Rankin; and three brothers: Milton Wylie, E.G. Wylie, and Macie Wylie.
Her passing away leaves behind two daughters: Priscilla Ann Nowak of Mesa, Arizona, and Lynda Earle Stephens of Mission Viejo, California; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whom she admired and loved.
Ann was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Homebuilders Sunday School Class; where she served as Vice President, Secretary, Nominating Committee, Church Communion Chairperson, Greeter, United Methodist Women, and Koinina prayer group, and was a former District Treasurer of United Methodist Women. She helped establish St. Luke’s preschool in 1960 and was a teacher and later Director of the school for many years. During this time she served as Secretary and Treasurer for the former South Plains Association for the education of young children, sponsored by Texas Tech University. She enjoyed reading, baking, serving and participating in her daughter’s school activities. Following her retirement she spent many hours oil painting and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5pm to 7pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church or Hospice of Lubbock.
