You have fought a good fight and have come to the end of a long, hard journey. You have completed a great task. So, rest now in peace. Rest in peace you so well deserve until we meet in that great Promise Land.
Precious Memories
Betty Boswell was born in Lubbock, Texas to Jack and Lillie Glaspie on January 6, 1940.
She married Ronald Boswell on January 15, 1962. To this union four children were born, Roland Boswell, Jacqueline Brown, Alicia Boswell, and Racquel Evans, all of Lubbock. Ronald preceded her in death on May 2, 1998.
Betty was a devoted wife and mother who put her family first. She was humble, gentle, and hardworking, and she most enjoyed the times in which the family was together. Some of her fondest times were when she would cook and have the family gather together at her house.
Christmas was Betty’s favorite time of the year, and she made it a point to make her Christmas decorations even more special and unique each year. She was looking forward to putting up her Christmas trees this year. Also, Betty was a fashionista and had the most beautiful, extensive wardrobe and jewelry. No matter the occasion, she was always dressed and looking her best. Betty independently kept a beautiful home and car.
Betty was fiercely devoted to her grandchildren and made a point to attend all their activities.
Roland fondly recalled that he was the only family member that remembered that his great-grandmother’s name was Omie because when he was a child he thought her name was funny and said “Oh me, oh my”, and our grandmother quickly punished him for it.
Betty graduated from Dunbar High School in 1958 where she was a member of the high school band in which she was a twirler.
Betty was a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Seventh Day Adventist Church. Over the years of her service to the church, she served as church clerk, community service leader, deaconess, Advent Youth leader, and Sabbath school teacher. But everybody knew her as “Aunt Betty”.
Betty retired from Lubbock State School Community Services in 1995 after serving 12 years to her credit.
Betty was devoted to her grandchildren, Jackie Gaona and Justin Mendez of Levelland, Danny Davis, Jr. of Lubbock, Trenton Brown, of Lubbock, Sergio Kelly of Lubbock, and Delaney Williams of Lubbock, and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Ari Gaona of Levelland.
Betty is survived by her children: Roland Boswell, Jacqueline Brown, Alicia Boswell, and Racquel Evans, all of Lubbock; one sister, Elizabeth Evans of Lubbock; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
From Alicia
To my mother: Thank you for giving me the determination to make it in this world. Thank you for making our house a home as children, and thank you for helping to raise and love my children. There will never be another. I love you. Until we meet again.
