

The family of Billy Nelson will celebrate his life of 78 years at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. His family will hold a time of fellowship and remembrance from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Born in Quilan, TX at home. Billy was the 2nd oldest of 5 kids. He went to school at Idalou and at Roosevelt. At 6 years old he started chopping cotton with his dad. On March 9, 1963, he married the love of his life, Melva, and they lived in Lubbock. Billy drove a semi-truck and was a route salesman for R.C. Cola, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and COORS for many many years. In 1970, his first daughter, Tanya, was born. In 1978, his 2nd daughter, Pam, was born. Billy loved riding horses and he belonged to the Lubbock Saddle Club and West Texas Raiders Riding Club.In 1983, Billy picked up and moved his family to Graham, TX, and got to work with his brother, Gerald, at Bryson Tank. While living in Graham, Billy enjoyed going fishing at the lakes around there. Billy stayed in Graham for a few years and then moved back to Lubbock, where he started to work for Borden’s again with his brother, Ronnie. After Borden’s shutdown in Lubbock, Billy started working for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal until his retirement. Billy was a family man and loved spending time and spoiling his grandkids. He and Melva would take them camping and went to numerous events of theirs. He also loved learning about family history on both the Nelson and Lindsey sides.Survivors include his children, Pam and husband Kerry Conatser, Tanya, and husband Clay Cowan; grandchildren, Tyler Cowan, Garrett Cowan, Kassidy Conatser, Kaveri Conatser, Kenzlee Conatser; one great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Ronnie Nelson, Gerald Nelson; Debbie and husband Stacy Bleeker; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Nelson; father, Avis "AW" Nelson; mother, Anna Nelson; brother, Walter Nelson.
