Bobbie J. Bowen

Bobbie Jean Bowen, age 85, was born in Sudan, Texas on December 12, 1930 to parents Charlie Smythe Davis and Lura Gatsy (Reynolds) Davis. Bobbie grew up in the Lakeview and Memphis communities. She graduated from grade school at Lakeview and from Memphis High School in 1949.

Bobbie married Robert Bowen on October 18, 1950. They moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1952.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; brother, C.S. Davis; sister, Charlyn Floyd; and great grandchild, Tatum Moore.

She is survived by her children, James M. Bowen, of Bedford, Texas, Patricia Rose, of Springtown, Texas, Karen Taylor, of Arlington, Texas, Martha Lightfoot, of Lubbock, Texas, John G. Bowen, of Forney, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great great grand child; brothers, Don Davis, Jim Dale Davis; and sisters, Merle Mitchell, Jerry Barton and Laverne Young.

Bobbie was a charter member of Oakwood Baptist Church, joining in 1962. Bobbie retired from the grocery business in 1999, working 28 years for Furr’s Supermarkets and 8 years at Lowe’s at their location on 26th and Boston Avenue.
