

Bobby Jerald Montgomery, Sr. was born on September 21, 1935, in Tahoka, Texas, to Pete and Katie Montgomery. At just six weeks old his family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Bobby would spend most of his life building a legacy rooted in faith, hard work, service, and family.
From an early age, Bobby demonstrated an exceptional work ethic. At only five years old, he began selling newspapers for the Lubbock Evening Journal, marking the start of a lifetime of dedication to providing for himself and others. Throughout his life he held multiple jobs, always willing to work hard and do whatever was needed. In the 1960s he proudly worked for Philco (Philco-Ford_.
Between 1952 and 1962, Bobby proudly served his country in the National Guard and the Army Reserve. His service reflected his strong sense of duty and integrity-qualities that guided him throughout his life.
In 1969, Bobby fulfilled a lifelong dream when he opened Texas Discount Furniture, which grew into a cherished family business, and later opened Montgomery Furniture. Bobby loved his customers and treated them like family, always striving to make each person feel welcomed, valued, and at home.
Always an entrepreneur at heart, Bobby also embraced creativity and fun. From 1975 to 1977, he opened Noah’s Ark Zoo on Slaton Highway, a memorable and unique venture that brought joy to many and reflected his adventurous spirit.
That same year, Bobby married the love of his life, Dorothy Jane Montgomery. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage built on love, devotion, and unwavering commitment to one another.
Bobby was a man of God; a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of his life. He loved the Lord deeply and led his family to Jesus through both his words and his example. Bobby was a giver, not a receiver, and lived his life serving others with humility, generosity, and compassion. His faith was the foundation of his life and the guiding force behind his love for his family.
Bobby is survived by his belove wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jane Montgomery; his children, Norman Whitt (Karen), Robert Whitt, Shellie Montgomery Galland (Jack), Teresha (Teri) Montgomery Mueller (Jason), and Bobby Montgomery (August); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Wanda King of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews, including his beloved niece Kathy and her husband, Coy, to whom he was especially close.
Bobby will be remembered as a man of God, for his steadfast faith, strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, joyful creativity, service to his country, and, above all, his deep love for his family and his dedication to leading them in Christ.
