At 2:05pm, May 23, 2023, the angels of heaven stood to welcome home a mighty warrior for the Kingdom of God, Candido Gaytan Lira (86); and he heard the Father say, “well done good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.”
Candido Lira was honorably discharged from the ARMY in 1965. He graduated from South Plains College with an Associates of Arts degree. He was a dental technician for Trippe Porcelain Laboratory for almost 40 years at which point he retired. As a young adult Cande was the Presidente de la Federacion del Oeste de Texas for La Asamblea Apostolica de la Fe en Cristo Jesus. Cande was an outspoken evangelist for Jesus Christ, and loved to share this passion with all he came near to, whether standing in line at a grocery store or in an elevator. He was a member of Rock City, and for many years he served in the hospital ministry and was a part of the Silver Eagles. He loved music, sports, gardening, and fishing and sharing this love with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan of football and baseball, and a season ticket holder to Texas Tech football. GO RED RAIDERS!!! His love for his family was evident in that he would drop everything to go meet a need or lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ursulo and Concepcion Lira, and his brothers, Gregorio Lira, and Esiquio Lira. He is survived by his siblings, Catalina Mendoza of San Antonio TX, Francisco Lira, of Lubbock TX, and Emilia Stojanovic of Lubbock TX. His children, Mark Jason Lira (Rosalia) of Midwest City OK, Cyndi Jean Heron of Gilbert AZ, and Michael James Lira of Lubbock TX. His grandchildren, Nathan Quirino of Houston TX, Gabriel Mark Lira of Norman OK, Levi Jason Lira of Tulsa OK, Tayler Morgyn Heron of Gilbert AZ, and Ty Hunter Heron of Gilbert AZ and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Rock City Church on Friday 2nd from 6-8pm.
