He was born on October 1, 1949, to Lawrence C Duckworth and Wanda Jahanka Cox in Mount Vernon, Posey County, Indiana.
He grew up in West Texas and he excelled in sports, particularly baseball and football, playing football for Permian High School and later going to the University of Texas.
He worked in the oilfields of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico where he gained many lifelong friends and stories.
He married Gail Alexander on January 24, 1984. They had three children: Angela, Sara, and Clint. They raised their children in Hobbs, NM and enjoyed working together on the many home improvement projects that Gail presented him. They always enjoyed each other’s company, shared many laughs together, and spent quality time with their children.
He eventually left the oilfield and began a career in sales, first with Schwann’s, then Drummond, and retiring with Share Corporation as a territory sales manager. Dennis excelled and won many awards during his sales career.
He was an avid talker and enjoyed visiting with his customers, friends, and family. He was quick witted and enjoyed humor.
Later the family moved to Lubbock, TX, where they enjoyed season tickets to Texas Tech Raiders football games and annual summer trips to Balmorhea State Park.
Gail left dad too soon in 2004. He was devastated but continued to work and support his family. His children grew up and had children of their own which he cherished. The grandkids love their “Papa”, and their “Papa” loves them.
Dennis is survived by his sister, Beverly Whalen and brother, Rick Duckworth; his three children Angela Duckworth, Sara Mendez, and Clint Duckworth; and his six grandchildren Alexander “Xander”, Lucy Gail, Riley, Tully, Nicholas River, and Ruby Gail.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gail Dawn Duckworth, parents, and siblings Norma Barnes, William “Billy” Duckworth, and Lawrence “Larry” Duckworth.
