I'm so sad to hear the news of Donald's passing.  I met him in Los Angeles at the King's and had the priviledge of driving him to and from campus from Airtel.  He even left three dollars in the rent a car for gas.  Such a sweet and thoughtful thing to do! 

Everytime I was in his presence, over breakfast in the lobby or eating a burger on the lanai, he was such a pleasure to be around.  A true gentle-man. 

There are few people you meet in this world with such a settled spirit...Donald was one of them! 

My heart goes out to the family and friends who will surely miss him.

I was blessed to take both online and modular courses with Donald at The King's and to meet Melody and some of the grandchildren at graduation. 

Donald is one of those people who speaks quietly into your heart and life. As we were talking over a meal once, the Lord spoke much needed words of comfort and encouragement to me through Donald.

I am honored to know him and am confident that our faithful God will give comfort, grace, and strength to Melody and all the family.

I have been in classes at The King's University with Donald the past several years. I will always cherish the lunch we had at Boston Market with Paul Rapley and the amazing miracles that took place that day over the lunch hour. What a blessing to call Donald a friend. May God comfort the family in this time of grieving. -Heidi Summers

The King's just sent out a notice today that Donald Dawes passed away.  I recognized his name right away as someone with whom I had taken at least one online class.  

Of all the classes I took, I only saved one quote from the multitudes of postings.  While I don't have his name attached to this, I'm certain he's the one who wrote the following in a class posting:  
"I confess that often I have tended to tried to balance between my spiritual life and my secular life...but then I realized that there is only one life. I have to allow my spiritual life to be everything thus becoming my secular life as well."

That reflects a life well-lived.  While I never met him personally, I want to extend my sympathies.

I truly was blessed to have met Don when he came to a modular class at King's University.  His infectious laugh and kind spirit drew a lot of people to him.  I am sorry to hear of his departure on this side of the world, but Thanks be unto God that we will see him again and we know he is glad to be in the arms of Jesus. Melody, I can visualize people coming up to Don in Heaven and saying "Thank you for giving to the Lord" because if it hadn't been for his kind loving gestures and leading others to Christ, they might not be there now. I think back on the song that Ray Boltz wrote on Thank you for giving to the Lord and it fits Don Perfectly. We all prayed for you and your family on the Emmaus walk this weekend and we all have precious memories that will make Don live on in our lives. God Bless you.

I met Don in the early 90s on a Walk to Emmaus in Abilene and subsequently worked several walks with him.  He was a real inspiration to me and an example that I often utilize in my own Christian walk!  I know there is a great celebration in heaven for his homecoming! I met Don through the Big Country Emmaus Community and was privileged to be a fellow team-member on several walks.  Don's humor kept everyone in stitches, but he also knew how to get serious when the situation was right.  I personally observed him lead several men to Christ.  What a great, deeply devoted guy whose much-too-short life nevertheless had eternal consequences for many.

Melody, we were shocked to hear of Don's passing.  Everytime we think of the two of you, a smile creeps across our faces.  May you feel God's loving comfort as you move forward.
