Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014. She was born on June 9, 1922, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Ernest and Bertha Stephens, and died in Lubbock, TX. She is forever held in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy graduated from Dodson High School as Valedictorian and entered Texas Technological College in the fall of 1939. While at Tech, she was President of Casa Linda and earned her B.S. degree in 1942, graduating Magna Cum Laude. After graduation she accepted a job in Washington D.C. and worked for the Honorable George Mahon. In 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, Paul D. Scott, but remained in Washington while Paul continued his efforts in the war as a B 29 pilot.
Their early married years were spent in Lubbock, Dimmitt, and Muleshoe, TX. They remained in Muleshoe until 1979, and during those years Dorothy served as County Clerk for the Farmers Home Administration. They were servants to others at the Muleshoe Church of Christ and in their community, and enjoyed a close bond with many friends. Paul died in 1979, and Dorothy spent the reminder of her life in Lubbock.
She was a member of Greenlawn Church of Christ and the Lubbock Christian University Associates, and her faith and love of God and others was very important to her. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, playing games, and helping others with their income tax preparation. In 2000 she married Ewell Booker and remained very happily married to him until his death in July, 2014.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Linda Hutchins and Sandra Blackwood (Rod) and one sister, Paula (Wayne) Harrison of Lubbock. Also, her grandchildren Shawna (Steve) Gomez, Nathan (Kim) Blackwood, Cody Hutchins, and great-grandchildren Hayden and Landon Gomez, Brennan and Lindsey Blackwood, and Braxton Hutchins. She also leaves a host of Booker children and their families that were special to her. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Truman Stephens.
The family suggests memorials to Lubbock Christian University Athletics or the Alzheimer’s Association.
