

Ethel Blomquist Thurman, age 90, of Lubbock, died on Thursday, December 24, 2015. She was born on the family farm on November 10, 1925, in Kenedy, Texas, to the late Winnie and Carl Gustav Blomquist. She was the second of three daughters. She was a talented musician, an artist and gifted seamstress. She married Pat H. Thurman in 1956 in Austin, Texas. She began her career in banking, a silent pioneer for women in the financial services industry; eventually serving as one of the first female Banking Officers of the time. She is survived by her beloved husband, Pat; daughter, Ingrid (Gaylon) Simmons; granddaughter, Jennifer (Tom) Johnston; great grandchildren, Patric Johnston, Will Johnston, Molly Johnston; as well as numerous cousins and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the kindness and compassion offered by the Carillon Memory Care staff over the past nine years. The family would also like to thank the Covenant Medical Center Palliative Care Team and Dr. Jeremy Brown for their compassion, dignity and grace.
