Funeral Mass for Fidel R. Lara, 89, of Lubbock, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct 28, 2010, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven. Mr. Lara passed away on Oct 24th.
Fidel was born on April 24, 1921 in Matehaula, Mexico to Juan and Felicitas Rojas Lara. He married Maria Herminia Barron on January 14, 1949, in Brownsville, TX. She preceded him in death on Nov 18, 2002. In his early years he laid Railroad tracks in the northern U.S. prior to moving to Shallowater in 1956, where he worked as a farm laborer. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include five sons, Ruben (Elia), Tony (Cheryl), and David Lara, all of Lubbock, Juan Lara of Wolfforth, and Marcus (Tami) Lara of Shallowater; four daughters, Rosa Cantu, Teresa Lara, Gloria (Steve) Merton, and Mary Lou Lara, all of Lubbock; one brother, Moses Lara of Shallowater; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army, or donor’s favorite charity.
