

On April 10, 1933 Franklin R. Wiley was born to Carrie Mae and James R. Wiley in
Dexter, New Mexico. He attended school in South Plains and graduated with the class of 1950 in Floydada, Texas. In 1976 he received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayland Baptist College. Frank joined the U S Navy September 9, 1952 and served aboard the USS Nereus (AS-17) a Submarine Tender. After he was discharged in September 1956 he was employed by Armour and Company in Lubbock, Texas until October 1957. On November 1, 1957 he began work at the Lubbock Police Department. During the thirty-nine years of employment (1957-1996) as a police officer he worked in the Patrol, Traffic, Juvenile, Detective and Internal Affairs Divisions. The last two years prior to retirement he served as the Assistant Chief of Police of the Detective Division. He attended the FBI Academy in Virginia in 1973. He married Charlotte Langehennig on May 28, 1992. He served on Boards for Women’s Protective Services, Rape Crisis Center and a Charter Member of Crimes against Victims. Since his retirement in 1996 he enjoyed more time with his family and pursued his lifelong dream to become a professional golfer. He played golf every chance he had.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Wiley of Lubbock; three children: Patty (Loyd) Lummus, Nancy (Larry) Swan, Terry (Scarlett) Wiley; four step-children: Delton (Cindy) Langehennig, Bryan (Kristine) Langehennig, Angie Sullivent, Melissa (David) Ford; one sister: Mary (Howard) Cherry; one brother: Leon (Betsy) Wiley, one sister-in-law Gladys Bailey, 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, one son, Larry Wiley in 2003, one son-in-law, Monte Sullivent in 2004, two sisters, Lida Ruth Wiley and Freda Merle, and three brothers, James Bailey, Donny Wiley, and Richard Wiley and one sister-in-law Peggy Wiley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 6-8 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, Lubbock, TX. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 10:00 am at Redbud Baptist Church, 801 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in Frank’s name to the Alzheimers Disease Education, 3601 4th St. Rm 3A 116, Lubbock TX 79430.
