On April 14, 2012 Gerald Wayne McMahan passed from this life to the next and into the waiting arms of his loving wife and best friend, Barbara McMahan, for their first dance in Heaven. He so looked forward to that day. He was born November 23, 1939, in Hale County, to Arther and Ethel McMahan. His parents and siblings, Horace McMahan, Walter McMahan and Ruby Wilson have preceded him through the gates of Heaven.
His remaining siblings are A.K. McMahan of Bolivar,TN, Jim McMahan of Albuquerque,NM and Dona Pounds of Justin, TX. He is survived by his loving children, son Tracy McMahan and wife Amy of San Antonio, daughter Terri Mahaffey of Lubbock, son Steve McMahan and wife Monica of Lubbock, son Jerry McMahan of Lubbock and daughter Pamela Gold of Frisco. He truly loved his seven grandchildren, Brooke, Brittany, Melanie, Haylee, Alex, Taylor, Carson and great grandchildren Nicolas and Bella.
Gerald was the 5th of 7 children. Born during tough times, his earliest memories were of hard work, integrity, family devotion and sacrifice. These are characteristics he lived by his entire life. His teen years found him living in Lubbock, where he met the love of his life. She showed him how life could be and changed him forever. They were married July 11, 1957. His trade as a Master Carpenter led them to California in the early 60's where as a hobby he took up race car building and driving. He loved his time at the track and riding motorcycles with his family.
He passed on his love of cars, motorcycles and the outdoors to his children. He was a wonderful storyteller, most of which were about the events in his life. He came back to Lubbock in the early 70's to start his own cabinetry business. He loved being back home around more of his family.
He cherished his time with all his cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In 1980 he joined Wilson Surveying and stayed until his retirement in 2007. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Barry Stephens of Monterey Church of Christ officiating.
