

Gerald R. Perry, 95, of Lubbock passed away on February 9, 2014. He was born on January 28, 1919 in Greenbrier, Ark. He later moved to Clarksville, Texas where he graduated from Clarksville High School. Gerald joined the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant, 717 Bombardment Squadron Strategic Air Command in 1961, after serving more than 20 years. While in the 493 Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force stationed in England, he flew 35 missions during WWII into Germany, in a B-17 Flying Fortress, as a member of the “Helton's Hellcats” as a tail gunner. Gerald received numerous awards and commendations during his military career.
After retirement, Gerald then worked for over 20 years as a furniture factory representative for Texas and New Mexico. In his spare time, Gerald loved to play golf, fish, and do yard work. Gerald married Dorothy Hancock on January 4, 1942. They had two children, Rose Moon and Robert D. Perry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Perry and son, Robert D. Perry. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Rose Moon; grandchildren, Brooke Perry, Jeff Moon, and Jasmine Manzer.
Graveside services with military honors for will be at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 in Resthaven Memorial Park. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
