

Jack D. Bryant, 82, of Lubbock died on Monday, September 24 at Covenant Medical Center from complications associated with myelofibrosis. Jack was born July 1, 1930 to Hubert and Julia Manon Bryant in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for 11 years. He married Ernestine Carpenter in 1951, and they made their home in Lubbock where Jack served with the Lubbock Police Force, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department and as a criminal investigator in the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office. After retirement, he served as a bailiff at the Lubbock County Courthouse for nine years, for a career total of 48 years in law enforcement. Jack will be remembered by his family, friends and co-workers for his steadfastness, integrity and loyalty. He was a member of Monterey Baptist Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ernestine, and a daughter, Cindy McBrayer and her husband Mark of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Whitney McBrayer, Bryant McBrayer and his wife Carmell, and Josh Taylor and his wife, Brittny; three great grandchildren, Presley McBrayer, and Sydnee and Cooper Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Kathryn, and a daughter, Stacy Bryant Turley.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. A 9 a.m. graveside burial service at Resthaven Memorial Park will be followed by a memorial service in the Abbey Chapel in Resthaven at 10 o’clock, with the Reverend Jim Brown of Monterey Baptist Church officiating.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Joe Arrington Cancer Center for their compassionate care for Jack during his illness. Memorial gifts may be made to a favorite charity.
