Jan grew up in Tulsa, OK and went to Tulsa Central High School. She enjoyed ice skating on weekends and taking piano lessons in her young years. She spent her college years at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK., beginning in 1953. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She loved her life long girlfriends from her sorority and they planned annual trips to keep their friendships bonded!
She arrived in Midland, TX in 1965. She later found a career at Steedman Estates managing their family trust for 24 years. Jan found the love of her life when she married Robert (Bobby) Hover in 1969 and were married for 32 years. Their amazing years together were priceless. They truly lived life to its fullest along with unbelievable Midland friends they met along the way. They enjoyed traveling, going to beaches and lakes, dancing, laughing, smiling, planning dinner parties…just to name a few. Jan stayed busy. She was creative, talented and an artist. She was an avid tennis player, interior decorator and could sing, play the piano and strum a ukulele for entertainment. She had amazing talents when she formed two small businesses in Midland. One called Razmataz, creating one-of-a-kind jackets for ladies and the other business was creating Christmas Ornaments…molding, painting and distributing these unique creations all over Texas in the 70’s and 80’s.
Shortly after Bobby Hover’s passing, Jan made the decision to move to Lubbock, TX in 2003 to be closer to one of her daughters. Here she found new friends by joining the Texas Twisters Ski and Adventure Club and traveling with them. A few years later, she found her last companion, Jerry Meyer. She also found a church home in Lakeridge Methodist Church where she attended church and her Trinity Sunday School Class regularly. She had a strong personal relationship with God. She loved this church and the people that surrounded her with love and kindness. Jan joined the Lubbock Lions Club and loved working on the annual Pancake Festival. She also played bridge at the Lubbock Bridge Center and earned the highest goal – a Life Master Bridge Player!
Jan Hover was always a happy, positive person. She woke up EVERY DAY with a smile – a large, beautiful smile that was contagious. Her positive character was uplifting, warm and sincere. She was passionate about having fun, being helpful, being involved and busy, and living life to the fullest. She had energy that we wished we all had. She was intelligent, wise and shared her wisdom and advice with her daughters and grandchildren and even to friends whether they wanted it or not. She loved her family deeply and couldn’t wait to share and spend quality time with each and every one of them, as those times brought her tremendous joy!
