Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Grace; her beloved daughter, Bobbie; and her husband of 73 years, David. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Billie Joy Briggs.
Joan began her career as a licensed practical nurse in public school before transitioning to serve as a secretary to school superintendents, a role she held faithfully until her retirement. Beyond her professional life, Joan was deeply involved in the equestrian community. She served as director of the Lubbock Chapter of the United States Pony Club and was an active member of the Southwest Association of Western Horsemen and the Llano Estacado Dressage Association. Horses were at the center of her life, and she was devoted to their care and well-being.
Bent Tree Farm, the family stable, was a place of community and mentorship. Joan and her husband, affectionately known as “Mr. & Mrs. B,” were beloved figures—serving as barn and show parents, organizers, and mentors to the many riding students taught by their daughter, Billie.
In her spare time, Joan was an avid seamstress who found great joy in sewing and collecting beautiful fabrics. She had a creative spirit and a warm, giving heart.
Joan shared a remarkable and loving marriage with her husband, Dave, for 73 years. Their deep devotion to one another was matched by their strong Christian faith, which guided their lives and
relationships.
Joan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
