Johnnie Mathis

Johnnie G. Mathis, 87, of Lubbock, passed away on January 28, 2013. Born to J. Harve and Maude (Galloway) Mathis on September 21, 1925 in Claude, TX. He married Estell Stephens on August 5, 1948 in Childress, TX. Johnnie served in the Navy, worked as General Manager and Vice President of McKelvey Furniture prior to his retirement. He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ and Sunset Church of Christ. Johnnie was preceded in death by his brothers; Roy, Stanley, and Joseph Mathis, sister; Ione Hughes, and his parents. Survivors include wife of 64 years; Estell, son; Jerry Mathis and wife, Carol, granddaughter; Denae Jackson and husband, Brian, great-grandsons; Sgt. Kelly Jackson and Jeremy Jackson, great-great-grandson; Stedson Jackson, sister in law; Pauline Mathis, Marvene Mathis, and Juanell Mathis; along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Lubbock, Calvert Home Health, and the staff of Grand Court. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30 from 6-8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 31 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Broadway Church of Christ. Memorials may be directed to The Children’s Home of Lubbock.
