Judy was born on March 29, 1939, in Pauls Valley, OK to James “Woodrow” and Ethel Strickland. She graduated from Snyder High School (Oklahoma) where she met her high school sweetheart and husband, Max Tipton. Shortly after her graduation in 1957, the two were married and Max wheeled Judy down Main Street in a wheelbarrow. Judy and Max had three children, Betty, Nancy, and Laurie.
Judy’s adult life consisted of raising her three daughters and taking care of the home, while supporting Max throughout his career. She loved the Lord and treated everyone she met with gentle kindness and a smile. She was a loving advocate for those with special needs. In her free time, Judy read her favorite books, embroidered, enjoyed shopping, never missed her weekly hair appointment, and excelled in painting. You know you have a Judy original by her unique printed artist signature.
Above all, Judy loved her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, her siblings J.W. and June, and daughter, Nancy. Judy is survived by her daughters Betty Burgoon (Jim Bob) and Laurie Tipton, grandchildren Eric Ewing (Christina), Jared Burgoon, Kyle Ewing (Jayci), Kayla Cole (Terrell), Beka Bair (Adam), Ali Roberts (Josh), and Bo Ewing (Dana), as well as multiple great and great-great grandchildren who brought her much joy.
Judy supported multiple non-profit organizations throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
