Born in Iowa, LA where her family farmed alongside her grandparents and later moved to Katy, Texas, in 1936 to begin rice farming, Kathleen attended school in Katy. She was a member of the Katy marching band and graduated from Katy High School in 1949 with honors, receiving a scholarship to Mary Hardin Baylor College. She chose to attend beauty school in Houston and after completion, she worked in a beauty shop there in Katy. During her senior year in high school, she met the love of her life, James Brainard Adamson who was working for Tex-New Mexico pipeline. They were married on January 11, 1951. Within three years, they had two small children, and the pipeline transferred them to a small oilfield town, Loco Hills, New Mexico. After four years, they branched out on their own to start an oilfield service company, Adamson Hot Oil Service. Smoky converted a small trailer into a beauty shop for her and named it Kay's Beauty Box. Kathleen began "doing hair" for the ladies in the town. She was a busy lady answering the phone and bookkeeping for the business while raising two kids and "doing hair" for the ladies. After twelve years, they sold their Hot Oil business and managed oil properties. Kathleen and Smoky were able to travel to many places including 48 states and enjoyed their friends, traveling in their RV, and square dancing. After 45 years in Artesia and Loco Hills, they moved to Wolfforth, Texas where they lived for the remainder of their lives enjoying gardening and spending time with family. Her flowers were always a showstopper for others to see. She was an accomplished China painter. Her artwork won many awards. She has left an amazing heritage for the three generations which have learned from her: including working hard at whatever you choose to do and loving the Lord with all of your heart. Her motto was "Leave it better than you found it and don't be messy about it!" Smoky and Kathleen were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.
