Loyd Cowan

Loyd Cowan went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Mary Cowan, on Saturday, March 27, 2022. His heart was broken the day they found out Mary was diagnosed with cancer. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home and his heart was healed as he set eyes on her once again.

Loyd was born July 26, 1937 to Olen and Dennie Cowan in Parnell, TX on their family farm out by the water well. He was the oldest of 2 sons. His brother, Jimmy, preceded him in death in 1983. At an early age, Loyd and his brother enjoyed running around the family lumber yard and dragging main street in Littlefield, TX.

He attended school and graduated from Littlefield High School in 1957. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Mary Sharp and the two happily wed on December 15, 1957. He owned and operated a lumberyard in Littlefield, and after a short time picking apples in Las Vegas, NM, came home to begin his career as a self-employed Master Plumber. He plumbed new homes in the Littlefield and Levelland area until 1979 when he and Mary moved to Lubbock, TX and purchased Pecan Grove Mobile Home Park. Shortly after, they had the opportunity to purchase Executive Mobile Home Village in the mid-1980s where they owned and operated with great pride. He and Mary attended Calvary Baptist Church in Littlefield, TX for numerous years.

Loyd loved spending time with his family most. He loved it when the family would gather at his house, and his face always showed it. He loved having all of the kids, grandkids and great grandkids come over. His favorite was Christmas, where after lunch was done it was time to pass out that massive pile of gifts. He would hand out each gift with the big finish being him opening his gifts and making all the family ooh and ahh as he put on his big shows. He loved the Dallas Cowboys with all his heart and never gave up hope. He loved to travel with Mary to various square and round dances around the state of Texas. They were members of the Levi and Lace Square and Round Dance Club in Lubbock. He and Mary held various offices throughout their 35 years including president of their local club and various state offices.

Loyd enjoyed working and taking care of Executive Mobile Home Village, where you would see him out on his golf cart picking up trash or visiting with residents after putting in a long day mowing lawns and doing maintenance around the park.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, and brother; and his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Cowan.

Loyd is survived by his four children; son, Toney and wife, Sandra Cowan of Levelland; Janice Gage and Mike Knotts of Lubbock; Betty Perkins and Jim Stewart of Lubbock; and Gayla Kinney of Mount Pleasant, SC. Loyd had 10 grandchildren; Amanda and her husband Collin Ashing, James and his wife Lori Cowan, Ashley and her husband Derek Tessneer, Jessica Quap, Jenny Melville, Shelby Gage, Justin Carpenter, Rebecca and her husband Beau West, Charley and Katy Kinney; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, April 1st from 6-8 P.M.

Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 P.M. followed by graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery.
